LAS VEGAS – Mike Strembitsky, the “Father of Empowerment Schools,” will discuss reorganization of the Clark County School District on Tuesday, August 23 at the noon luncheon meeting of the Rotary Club of Las Vegas West at Canyon Gate Country Club.
Other local education administrators and leaders eager to learn more of the planned restructuring of the CCSD based upon the pioneering principles of Strembitsky will be in attendance.
Strembitsky is the internationally known pioneer of the empowerment model for school districts, which grants local principals and teachers more leeway to make decisions usually left up to a school district’s central office. As school superintendent in Edmonton, Canada, in the 1980s, Strembitsky pioneered this empowerment model that quickly spread to school districts around the world.
Nevada State lawmakers, tasked with studying ways to reorganize the Clark County School District, voted unanimously to hire Strembitsky guide a study of how this model could be expanded to every neighborhood school in the district. In 2007, an earlier Stembitsky proposal was successfully implemented in 16 Valley schools. Just last month, the Technical Advisory Committee presented its first draft of recommendations to the CCSD.
